Eeekkk. I know - this isn't going to be a fun post, but it's one we need to chat about.
You've probably noticed I haven't really been on Facebook much in the last few months. And I'm not gonna lie, it was so needed for me. I was getting overwhelmed and stressed over a lot of the little things that I thought I should be doing. Notice the wording there - what I thought I should be doing.
Here's the thing. Social Media doesn't have requirements. The apps won't kick you out if you take a break or don't interact with a minimum number of accounts. You didn't sign a contract with the social channel (or your company) that you would post a certain number of times each week.
A lot of these "but I have to" moments we have are things we put on ourselves.
I get it. I've been there. And it is so incredibly hard to get out of the cycle. Thinking we are going to disappoint people or lose all the progress we've made. I totally get it. Know that you aren't alone.
But also - you are more important than the vanity metrics of social media.
Vanity metrics - the likes, comments, shares, saves, follows - all that fun stuff.
I've had a few posts go "viral" and bring me additional visibility and it was super exciting. But also, the stress that comes with that is very real too. There's a lot of notifications, messages, and bots you then have to block. It's not fun.
I'm going to be doing a talk for Sparkle Hustle Grow on Friday about this, but I wanted to share a bit on here too this month about how I have set (and reset) some boundaries with social media for myself, my family, and my business.
If you want to join for the special deep dive into this, it's not too late to sign up - you can get more info on Sparkle Hustle Grow here: https://lddy.no/14is5.
Okay, let's chat boundaries. Here are a few things to look at as we get started. I'll be putting up a few more posts about this throughout the month on here and Instagram.
What social media platform is most important to me?
What social media platform is a time suck?
What social media platform stresses me out?
What social media platform do I enjoy the most?
How much time am I spending on social media each week?
How much of that time is for fun?
How much of that time is for work?
Am I being intentional with my time on social media?
What part of being on social media makes me uncomfortable?
If I could grow on one platform, which one would it be?
Take some time to answer these questions for yourself. Sit with them and answer honestly. This is what you are going to need to get started on this journey of boundary setting. We need to have a baseline.
And if you have done this before, there's nothing wrong with revisiting it.
Once you have the answers to these questions, we can move forward with mapping out a solid plan for boundaries, intention, and growth!
Be watching for the next steps post.
In the meantime, I hope to see you Friday for my talk in Sparkle Hustle Grow.
Ready to really make progress in this area? Book a call with me (with the answers to the questions above ready to go) and let's dive into this together! I will give you a clear outline of some resources to help you moving forward with social media boundaries and how to stay on track with them too!
Have an amazing rest of your day. And remember, no is a complete sentence.
All the love,
Abby
